Step 1

Life Planning

Retirement is highly personal. So we take time to get to understand you personally. We look at how you got to where you are now, where you want to get to in the future and what you want to achieve, financially, in the next 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 years?

  • We’ll talk about what is important to you and what drives you? It’s about imagining, if money was not a factor, what you would want to do in life? And what do you want to get out of it?
  • We’ll look at your lifestyle expectations – now and in years to come. It’s about really getting to grips with what you want your money to do in the first place – what kind of an enabler is it for you?
  • We will work with you to identify the cost of your current lifestyle as well as that which you are looking towards in the future. This can be an exciting part of the process as you start identifying important direction for the future, and what the next stage of your life holds.

Financial Planning

We are now ready to undertake extensive financial planning – to analyse all of your existing retirement provision. What are your investment vehicles worth now – and what might they be worth in the future – taking into account performance to date?

We then apply our state-of-the-art financial planning software to this information, together with a breakdown of your lifetime expenditure requirements. We can now start to see what your financial future looks like and will be able to clearly understand:

  • Your net worth (we will have a detailed statement of this).
  • Your various income sources – now and in the future.
  • Your expenditure requirements, based on you living the life you want to live.
  • Various catastrophe situations – including understanding the effect on you and your family should the worst happen.
  • Some ‘what if’ scenarios – so that we can identify what needs to happen to ensure that your goals (based on the LifeplanningTM meeting) are achieved.

This is when most clients suddenly understand what they need to do, and why. It’s when money starts making sense. This is when clients see the possibilities available to them, now and in the future.

Step 3

Product Planning

This stage is ONLY implemented if the need arises. Having completed Stages 1 and 2, if your financial plan tells us that some of your needs and goals are not being met – we will look at what products are available to assist.

We research the market to identify the financial products that are best suited to your objectives of your financial plan. To do this, we use sophisticated independent product research software to :

  • compare product provider;
  • contrast fund performance, volatility and asset allocation for different funds;
  • rigorously research the relevant investment landscape and provide a detailed recommendation report.

You’ll see how, in many ways, our process is the inverse of that followed by traditional financial advisers, whose focus is on selling products. We believe that a financial adviser has no right to ‘sell’ you a product unless they have carried out a thorough investment analysis.
